A Tooth With a Fracture Might Need to Be Restored by a Dental Crown

The reasons for fractured teeth, and the amount of damage caused can vary. Sometimes fractures are the result of bad habits like crunching on ice, biting your nails, or chewing on desktop items. At the same time, grinding your teeth when you sleep and playing sports without a necessary mouth guard can also chip a tooth.

Even if the fractured tooth doesn’t cause discomfort, you should still have it examined at Dr. Parker Long’s office in College Station, Texas. The longer you delay, the greater risk of a cavity developing in the enamel.

A significant fracture often needs to be repaired with a crown. A crown is hollow and can be anchored to the tooth.

Dr. Davis forms the abutment by removing all the remaining tooth enamel. The doctor will then make an impression of the tooth and its neighbors. This also includes the teeth in your bite pattern that will connect with the crown.

The impression will be sent to a dental lab where your crown will be created. A temporary crown is cemented over the tooth to protect the sensitive abutment.

You will need to come back for a short,  second appointment once your crown has been created. The temporary crown will be removed and Dr. Davis will put the crown in place with a strong dental adhesive.

If you have recently suffered a dental fracture and you live in the College Station, Texas, area, you should call 979-846-0082 to seek treatment at Long Family & Cosmetic Dentistry.
